
New Delhi, Aug 11: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble MP, A&N Islands, met Shri Amit Shah Ji, Hon’ble Union Home Minister on 10.08.2026 at New Delhi and submitted a memorandum seeking early resolution of various pending issues concerning the Islanders.
After hearing the issues, the Hon’ble Home Minister assured the MP of looking into the matters for their early resolution. The major issues raised by Shri Ray were (1) Implementation of a Domicile Law providing 100% job reservation for Islanders and an upper age limit of 40 years for Group-B (Non-Gazetted) and Group-C posts, on the lines of the provisions applicable in the UT of Ladakh (2) Establishment of a Central University in the A&N Islands in place of the Deemed University (3) Enhancement of the annual budget allocation for developmental works in the Islands (4) Adequate financial assistance for PRIs and Municipal Councils for effective functioning and development (5) Restoration of powers, functions and funds to PRIs and Municipal Councils (6) Fair compensation and a suitable rehabilitation package for families affected by the Great Nicobar Island (GNI) Project (7) Upgradation of ANIIMS into an AIIMS Centre to provide better and advanced healthcare facilities to the people of the Islands (8) Formulation of a policy for permanent absorption/regularisation of casual, Daily Rated Mazdoor (DRM) and contractual employees who have been serving in various departments for many years.
