Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh Organise Massive Procession and Demonstration to Press on Pending Demands

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 4: The Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh (CITU) has organized a massive procession and demonstration today (3.9.2025) on various pending and reasonable demands of the workers working in the Municipal Council. The procession which began at the Delanipur playground culminated in front of the Municipal Council office at Mohanpura which culminated in a mass demonstration. Hundreds of workers working under the Municipal Council participated in the procession and mass demonstration.  The demands highlighted during the programme were 1. Grant 1/30th of pay plus DA to all DRMs of Municipal Council 2. Regularisation of services of DRMs of Municipal Council, 3. Filling up of vacant promotion posts of regular employees as per seniority, 4.  Take back all retrenched DRMs in service, 5. Stop mis-use of workers in the Municipal Council and 6.  Weekly off for all DRMs in Sanitary sections & Water Sections. 

Addressing the gathering of workers in front of the Municipal Council office, B. Chandrachoodan, President of Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh criticized the BJP-led Port Blair Municipal Council and Central government for not regularizing the services of the daily rated mazdoors working under the Port Blair Municipal Council. He said that these workers have completed 15 years to 25 years of continuous service and they are eligible for regularization of services. He also briefly explained the unsuitable and difficult conditions under which these workers are performing their duties without mandatory uniform, gloves, etc. Addressing the gathering, SP Kalairajan, General Secretary, Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh dealt with the massive mis-use of workers by the Councilors and officials of the Municipal Council. 

R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee and P. Sathyapal, Secretary, CITU State Committee also addressed the participants.  B. Chandrachoodan and SP Kalairajan, M. Yugander, Lakshman and Arulanand led the procession and mass demonstration.
