Director Education Encourages Parents to Take a Lead in Fostering Reading Culture at Home

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 14: National Book Week 2025 got underway today at the State Library with its inauguration by Shri Vikram Singh, Director (Education) as the chief guest. In his address, Director (Education) emphasized the importance of inculcating reading habits among children. He encouraged parents to take the lead in fostering a reading culture at home, noting that children often learn by observing their elders. He urged parents to visit libraries with their wards, borrow books regularly, and create an environment conducive to reading by limiting the use of digital gadgets.
The Director also informed that library membership is free for all and introduced a new initiative titled ‘Read a Book, Get a Gift Free’. Under this program, senior citizens will be welcomed with complimentary tea, while children will receive chocolates as tokens of appreciation for their love of reading.
The book exhibition, showcases a diverse range of titles catering to readers of all ages which includes children’s books, biographies, sports titles, books on the A&N Islands, novels, competitive exam guides, and books in various languages. The exhibition will remain open to the public from 9 AM to 8 PM, from Nov. 15 to 20. School and college students, as well as the general public, are welcome to explore the wide range of books available during this week-long celebration of reading and learning.
