National Workshop on Modernising India’s Animal Husbandry Sector Held at Vigyan Bhawan

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 14: A National Workshop on Modernising India’s Animal Husbandry Sector for Quality Production was organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi on 9th July, 2025. It was attended by officials from Central Government, State and UTs, National Dairy Development Board, Milk Federations and their key stakeholders from across the country. Andaman and Nicobar UT was represented by Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. In her keynote address, Smti Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, highlighted that animal husbandry is a cash generating sector contributing 30.7 percent to the country’s total Gross Agricultural Value Addition (GVA). She further shed light on the need for innovation, better quality, stronger collaboration at the National and State level for aligning with global standards for a modern, resilient animal husbandry.

The workshop included four regional sessions to enable focused discussions with representatives from Northern, Western, Southern, Eastern and north Eastern States. Each session actively discussed region-specific challenges and opportunities, focusing on enhancing productivity, controlling diseases and promoting sustainable livestock practices. The concluding session captured feedback from the States/UTs and outlined a road map for collaborative action.
