NGO Association Conducts its Annual Conference at Maharashtra Mandal

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 12: The Annual Conference of the Non-Gazetted Govt Officers Association, A & N Islands was held today (11.01.2026) at Maharashtra Mandal, Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram).  The Conference began with the hoisting the of the Association flag by its President R. Papa Rao.  Delegates and observers paid floral tributes to the martyrs at a specially erected Martyrs Memorial Column at the Conference venue.   P. Jaya Murthy moved condolence resolution. 

Inaugurating the Annual Conference, CITU All India Secretary, KN Umesh criticised the central government for enacting four Labour Codes in place of the existing labour laws, with the intention to favour the corporate in the country. Referring to the National Pension Scheme, he said that it was due to the continuous agitation by government employees during the last two decades that the government has come forward with the Unified Pension Scheme even though the same was also not beneficial to the employees and only a small percentage of employees opted the UPS.  He demanded immediate restoration of old pension scheme.    He said that nation’s assets are being sold out to corporate in the country in the name of   Public Private Partnership and National Monetisation Pipeline.   Thousands of crores of rupees are being doled out to corporate in the name of Productivity-linked Incentives to corporates for increasing the production and Employment-linked Incentives.  

He further said that employment growth during the last ten years has come down as compared to the period of 2004-2014. He further said that along with the suicide of farmers, now the country is witnessing suicide of self-employed persons and daily wage earners. He further said that in order to come out of the economic crises faced by the USA, President Trump is imposing higher rates of import tariffs.  

D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee, Pronob Banerjee, Vice President, Govt. Pensioners Association and SP Kalairajan, BSNL Employees Union also addressed the Conference and greeted the Delegates and Observers. 

Earlier, K. Mohan Rao, Chairman, Reception Committee welcomed the gathering while R. Papa Rao, President made presidential address.  

In the Delegate Session, R. Rajendran, General Secretary presented the working report of the Association since last Annual Conference held in 2023 while EA Johnson presented the audited Accounts.   Discussion was held on the General Secretary’s report after which it was passed by the Session. Resolutions on a large number of issues related to government employees and general public were passed in the Delegate Session.  

The proceedings of the Delegate session were conducted by a Presidium comprising R. Papa Rao, Nazreen Begum and Suma Nair.  Chakradhar Das proposed vote of thanks.  The Conference elected new office bearers and Central Executive Committee.  About 75 Delegates and Observers from different parts of Andaman & Nicobar Islands attended the Conference.  

Earlier in the morning, on his arrival at Port Blair Airport, KN Umesh was received by CITU and NGOs’ Association leaders.
