NIOT Celebrates Swachhata Pakhwada at Govt Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Bathubasti

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 4: Atal Centre for Ocean Science and Technology for Islands (ACOSTI), Sri Vijaya Puram is a field centre of National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India. As per the direction of Prof Balaji Ramakrishnan, Director, NIOT, Swachhata Pakhwada, a cleanliness campaign drive is being organised in NIOT- ACOSTI, Sri Vijaya Puram from 01.07.2025 to 15.07.2025.

Under this campaign, NIOT-ACOSTI Scientists visited the Govt Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Bathubasti on 04.07.2025 to create awareness among young minds about the importance of proper sanitation, hygiene and to join hands towards the “Swachh Bharat Mission” for a cleaner India. The NIOT team was warmly welcomed by Mr. J. Dasan Pushparaj, Principal, GSSS, Bathubasti.

Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Officer-In-Charge, NIOT-ACOSTI, interacted with school students and teachers. He emphasised the need to eliminate single-use plastic from our daily lives to protect our coastal and marine ecosystems. He requested the young generations to prioritise self-hygiene and community health. In the wake of this awareness campaign.

NIOT-ACOSTI has also donated essential daily use sanitisation products and consumables to GSSS, Bathubasti, to support the agenda of the Swachh Bharat Mission. On this occasion, Mr. J. Dasan Pushparaj appreciated the initiative and thanked the NIOT scientific team for their efforts and kind gesture.
