Prof. Uma Kanjilal appointed as first woman VC of IGNOU

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 25: Professor Uma Kanjilal has been appointed as the first woman Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University following the completion of her one-year term as acting Vice Chancellor. Prior to this role, Professor Kanjilal served as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University. She was also Director of the School of Social Science, and Director of the Advanced Centre for Informatics and Innovative Learning. On the international stage, Professor Kanjilal has provided consultancy for CEMCA and UNRWA, developed educational modules for the Commonwealth of Learning. She was also a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Illinois and has received numerous awards, such as the Manthan Award for eGyankosh and DELNET`s Best Lending Library Award. Additionally, Professor Kanjilal plays a key role as one of the national coordinators for SWAYAM, which offers free online courses and is involved with Swayam Prabha, a network of educational DTH channels providing continuous educational programming.

She has been a prolific academician, an efficient administrator and throughout her career, Prof. Kanjilal has demonstrated a commitment to advancing online education and digital library initiatives, both nationally and internationally.
