Ramnagar Students and Patients Undergo Daily Torture as Poor Bus Timing Plagues Diglipur

Pradhan Shymal Bhowmick Raises Public Outcry, Seeks Urgent Action on Bus Services and Waiting Hall

Diglipur, Oct. 15: Students from Ramnagar are being forced to wait nearly one and a half hours before school starts, while patients traveling to CHC Diglipur undergo daily torture standing in the open bazar-exposed to harsh sun and rain. This has prompted urgent appeals from the Pradhan of RK Gram, Shymal Bhowmick, to the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Shri Bhowmick highlighted that the school bus currently departs from Ramnagar at 5:45 AM, reaching Diglipur schools by 7:00 AM. This leaves students, especially girls, waiting in unsafe and uncomfortable conditions on the road as schools open at 8.30 AM. The situation is worsened by a chronic shortage of buses in Diglipur, leading to severe overcrowding on all routes.

The Pradhan also drew attention to the long-delayed construction of a bus stand and waiting hall near Subhash Gram headquarters. Commuters and patients have no shelter and are compelled to wait indefinitely, standing in open areas of the bazar, enduring extreme weather daily.

Bhowmick urged the Administration to revise the school bus timing to 7:00 AM, deploy additional buses to ease congestion, and expedite the bus stand construction to ensure safe and comfortable facilities for students and passengers alike.

Speaking to the press, Shri Bhowmick said, “Our children and patients should not have to start their day in hardship. Timely buses and proper waiting areas are basic necessities, and we hope the Administration acts without further delay.”

Ramnagar, known for its natural beauty and eco-tourism potential, continues to face infrastructure challenges that significantly affect both education and healthcare. Copies of the Pradhan’s letter were also sent to the Director of Transport, Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, and the Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur.
