Relentless Anti-Poaching Operations in North & Middle Andaman Arrests 09 More Myanmarese Poachers

Mayabunder, Sept. 4: In continuation of the on-going Anti-Poaching Operation launched by the Andaman & Nicobar Police on 24/08/2025 to curb illegal poaching activities in vulnerable areas of North & Middle Andaman District, the teams achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending 09 more Myanmarese poachers from the dense jungles of Khaal Gora near Jal Tikrey, Elizabeth Bay and Talbagan. With this, the total number of apprehensions has risen to 23 so far.

The areas where these poachers have been apprehended so far—namely Nappi Ghop, Loha Tikrey, Khaal Gora near Jal Tikrey, and Talbagan—are spread across an extensive stretch of nearly 100 sq. km of dense forest. This widespread operation is a testimony of the the scale and organized nature of deployment and coordination with all coastal security stakeholders.

This operation stands as the largest and most sustained anti-poaching drive undertaken in N&MA District so far this year, both in scale and intensity. It marks a major step in dismantling organized poaching networks and safeguarding the region’s fragile ecosystems.

Search and combing operations are still in progress across remote forest stretches of N&MA District to ensure that no remnants of these organized poaching groups remain undetected.

The A&N Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards illegal poaching and exploitation of marine resources and assures the public of continued vigilance and strict enforcement to safeguard the Islands’ unique biodiversity.
