Rich Tributes Paid to the Heroes of the First War of Independence

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 10: Rich tributes were paid to the heroes of First War of Independence at Chatham Memorial today. This day (Mar 10) commemorates the arrival of the First Batch of Freedom Fighters of 1857 to these Islands. At a solemn function held at Chatham Memorial at Chatham Island this morning, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Ms. Chanchal Yadav, IAS laid wreath at the Memorial as a mark of respect to the Freedom Fighters. Floral tributes were also offered at the Memorial by the Senior Officers of A&N Administration besides old inhabitants of these Islands, members of the Local Born Association and general public. A two minutes’ silence was also observed as a mark of respect to those freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation.
