Riding for a Drug-Free India: A&N Police Motorcycle Rally Carries its Message from the Islands to Gujarat

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 25: With the spirit of national unity and a firm resolve to combat drug abuse, the Andaman and Nicobar Police contingent participating in the National Motorcycle Rally–2026 is carrying the message of a drug-free India across states. Travelling from Maharashtra towards Gujarat, the contingent is engaging students, police trainees, NCC cadets and local residents through awareness programmes and public outreach under the theme “Fight Against Drugs”, as part of the National Unity Day celebrations.

The rally was flagged off from the historic Cellular Jail at Sri Vijaya Puram on 10 October 2026 by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma. The A&N Police contingent joined the rally at Chennai on 14 October and travelled through Nellore, Ongole, Hyderabad, Humnabad, Solapur and Daund before reaching Pune. The contingent comprises 12 police personnel, including 10 riders on five motorcycles, one team leader and one technical staff member.

During its journey through Maharashtra, the contingent paid tribute to police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice at the Police Smarak in Daund and conducted city parade campaigns to promote a drug-free society. In Pune, the team interacted with students at Dr. D. Y. Patil Educational Complex, Akurdi, and police trainees at CRPF, Talegaon, and the Police Training Centre, Khandala. The contingent subsequently proceeded to Mumbai, where it conducted further awareness activities and received a warm welcome from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Maharashtra.

On 25 October 2026, the rally continued towards Gujarat, where the contingent interacted with students at Anil Naik Technical Training Centre, Kharel, and engaged with students, NCC cadets and local residents at Sanskar Campus, Baleshwar College, Palsana. These interactions highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of collective responsibility in building a drug-free society.

The rally is scheduled to culminate at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on 31 October 2026, with a Grand Parade Performance as part of the National Unity Day celebrations.

Through this nationwide initiative, the Andaman and Nicobar Police continues to inspire public participation in the fight against drugs and reinforce the message: “Say No to Drugs. Choose Life. Build a Drug-Free India.”
