Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 8: The much-awaited second edition of the Island Coconut Festival 2025 will get underway at 3 pm tomorrow (Oct. 9) at the ITF Ground, Sri Vijaya Puram. Organized by the Department of Tourism, A&N Administration in collaboration with allied Departments, the two-day festival is themed ‘Celebrating Coconut – Culture, Cuisine & Crafts of the Islands’.
The festival promises a vibrant celebration of the Islands’ rich traditions and way of life, featuring captivating folk performances, coconut-based culinary contests, and displays of local handicrafts and artisan creations. It will also serve as a valuable platform for Self Help Groups (SHGs) and local entrepreneurs to showcase their talent, promote indigenous products, and generate income through sales and exposure.
The festival will remain open to visitors from 3 PM to 10 PM, offering a lively experience that blends culture, cuisine, and craftsmanship under one roof.
Besides the cultural programme, the Tourism Department will also be organizing series of competitions to make the two- day event more inclusive & participatory one. The Tourism Department will be organizing De-husking competition for both men & women in association with Agriculture Department. Competitions on best arts and handicrafts made of various parts of coconut tree will also be organized. On the spot cooking competition will be organized in which participants can bring cooked food from home. Cash prizes will be awarded by Tourism Department. The Education/Sports Department has set up different games corner for the people of all ages visiting the ITF pavilion which include chess zone, painting & drawing zone, etc. Crayon & stationary for the painting & drawing competition will be provided by Tourism Department. The Department has requested the general public to actively participate in different competitions planned for them and make the competition a participatory one.
