Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 30: A solemn function was held at Balidan Vedi, Homfreygunj Martyrs’ Memorial today, to mark the 82nd Martyrdom Anniversary and to pay homage to the Martyrs who were shot dead and buried there on Jan. 30, 1944 by the Japanese imperial force during World War-II.
The Deputy Commissioner (SA), Ms Purva Garg, IAS, as the chief guest of the function laid wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial followed by offering of floral tributes by members of the Homfreygunj Martyrs’ Memorial, descendants of the martyrs and prominent citizens of the Islands. She also gave away Homfreygunj Martyrs’ Memorial awards to the students of Govt. Secondary School Homfreygunj on the occasion.
A Sarva Dharma Prarthana (All Religion Prayer) was conducted in memory of the departed souls. The students of GSS H o m f r e y g u n j presented ‘Ram Dhun’. The Patron of the Homfreygunj Martyrs’ Memorial, Shri Gouri Shankar Pandey, its Gen. Secretary, Shri Jeivaish Shankar Pandey were among others, who attended this solemn function.
