South Andaman District Police Organizes Hands-on Training on Seaport Immigration Procedures

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug  31: South Andaman District Police has taken a significant initiative towards strengthening the professional capabilities and operational preparedness of police personnel handling immigration and foreigners-related duties by organising a five-day “Hands-on Training on Seaport Immigration Procedures” from 31 August to 04 September 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District, Sri Vijaya Puram.

The training programme was inaugurated on 31 August 2026 by Smti. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police/Foreigners Registration Officer, South Andaman District. The programme is being conducted with the support of experienced officers from the Bureau of Immigration (BoI), Chennai, with a specific focus on imparting practical and operational knowledge to police personnel involved in seaport immigration duties.

Speaking at the inaugural session, the Superintendent of Police emphasized that effective handling of immigration-related responsibilities requires not only knowledge of rules and procedures but also practical understanding, professional competence and coordinated field-level execution. She stressed the importance of ensuring that immigration formalities involving international passengers, foreign crew members and vessels are carried out in a systematic, efficient, uniform and legally compliant manner.

A total of 20 police personnel from North & Middle Andaman and Nicobar Districts, along with personnel of the Immigration & Foreigners Branch, South Andaman District, are participating in the training.

The key features of this programme is its emphasis on hands-on learning rather than merely theoretical instruction. The participating personnel are being provided practical exposure to various aspects of seaport immigration operations, enabling them to understand the procedures and subsequently apply the knowledge effectively while performing their duties.

Through this practical training, South Andaman District Police aims to ensure that personnel entrusted with these responsibilities are better equipped to identify procedural requirements, handle immigration formalities confidently and respond effectively to operational situations.

The initiative also seeks to strengthen inter-district coordination and standardisation of procedures by bringing together personnel from different districts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The creation of a trained pool of personnel will contribute towards better preparedness and more efficient handling of immigration-related duties at seaports across the Islands.

The organisation of this specialised training reflects the continued efforts of South Andaman District Police towards capacity building, skill enhancement and professional development of its personnel. By investing in practical training and strengthening the capabilities of its officers and personnel, the District Police is working towards ensuring that immigration and foreigners-related responsibilities are discharged with greater efficiency, professionalism, coordination and adherence to law.
