
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 1: On the occasion of National Sports Day and as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, South Andaman Police organised a series of sports and awareness activities across the district to promote a healthy, fit and drug-free lifestyle among youth.
As part of the initiative, Police Stations Chatham, Humfrygunj, Ograbraj, Bambooflat, HutBay and Aberdeen organised friendly volleyball and football matches involving police personnel, local youth and community teams. Lillypur emerged victorious at Chatham, Manglutan won at Humfrygunj, while PS Pahargaon secured the winning position in the volleyball tournament organised by PS Aberdeen at Carbyn Cove Beach, with PS Aberdeen as runners-up. Matches were also organised at Tushnabad, Wimberlygunj and Harbinder Bay, Little Andaman, providing youth with opportunities to engage in sports and constructive activities while strengthening police-public relations.
The activities were accompanied by awareness sessions highlighting the harmful physical, mental, social and financial consequences of drug abuse and the importance of sports, education and positive pursuits in keeping youth away from drugs and other harmful activities.
Through such initiatives, South Andaman Police reaffirmed its commitment to proactive community policing, youth engagement and the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat, while encouraging young people to embrace discipline, teamwork, fitness and a healthy lifestyle for a safer and healthier society.
