Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5: A Special Gram Sabha was organized on 2nd October, 2026, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, across 70 Gram Panchayats (GPs) of the A&N Islands under the People’s Plan Campaign (PPC) being implemented under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA).
The Gram Sabhas witnessed active participation of Pradhans, PRI representatives, Government officials and local residents, reaffirming the importance of people’s participation in grassroots planning and local governance.
During the Special Gram Sabha, discussions were held on Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and identification of local development priorities based on community needs. Various Government schemes and welfare programmes were also discussed to enhance awareness and facilitate better access to benefits at the grassroots level.
The Gram Sabhas also provided a platform for discussions on Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, cleanliness and sanitation, waste management, community participation, digital and cyber safety, awareness regarding new criminal laws, and other issues of local importance.
The observance of the Special Gram Sabha on Gandhi Jayanti highlighted the principles of participatory democracy, community ownership and inclusive development, with Gram Panchayats serving as the focal point for planning and implementing development initiatives.
