Sri Vijaya Puram, July 12: The Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO) at Port Blair, Shri. Umesh Singh Sharma, on 09th July, 2026 convicted one accused person namely Paritosh Sarkar resident of Little Andaman.
The accused person committed rape in the year 2012 upon her step-daughter who was then aged about 09 years. The matter came to limelight when the victim raised a shout and the surrounding people arrived, then the matter was informed to the concerned Police Station who registered a case against the accused person under Section 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the investigation was taken by SI Aditya Narayan.
The prosecution examined 14 witnesses and the Hon’ble Court after conducting trial found the accused person guilty of the offence and sentenced him to suffer 10 (Ten) years rigorous imprisonment for the offence punishable under Section 376(1) of IPC and to pay fine of Rs. 50,000/- in default of payment of fine, to suffer further rigorous imprisonment for 01 year. He was also sentenced to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 2 years for commission of the offence punishable under Section 506 of IPC and to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000/- failing which to suffer further imprisonment of 3 months.
The Hon’ble Court acknowledging the need for Victim’s rehabilitation, directed that a compensation of Rs. 6,00,000/- be provided to the victim for her rehabilitation, education and future maintenance. The judgment underlined the seriousness with which the courts are treating offence against children and stated that strong punishment must serve both as justice for the victim and as a deterrent to the society.
