Sri Vijaya Puram, July 15: In a significant milestone for the education sector of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the State Institute of Education (SIE) has been restructured and upgraded into the Andaman & Nicobar Islands State Council of Educational Research and Training (A&NI-SCERT) with the approval of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The State Institute of Education (SIE) was established in 1979 and functioned under the administrative control of the Directorate of Education. The primary objectives of the institution were to provide in service training to teachers at all levels and to support the monitoring and supervision of schools across the Union Territory, thereby enhancing the overall quality of school education.
The upgraded institution will now function directly under the Department of Education as the apex academic authority of the Union Territory. This transformation aims to strengthen the academic framework by providing comprehensive academic support to the Directorate of Education, with a focus on ensuring quality education from pre-primary to senior secondary levels and fostering the highest standards of teacher education and professional development.
The establishment of A&NI-SCERT marks a major step towards strengthening educational research, teacher education, curriculum development and academic innovation in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The upgradation of SIE into A&NI-SCERT reaffirms the commitment of Department of Education, A&N Administration towards building an inclusive, equitable, and future-ready education system that empowers educators, fosters innovation and enhances learning opportunities for every child across the Islands.
