Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16: The District-level Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025 with the slogan “Diarrhoea Ki Roktham, Safai Aur ORS Se Rakhen Apna Dhyaan” was launched today by Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, in the presence of Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SA) and Shri Abhishek Gulia, Assistant Commissioner (Sett.), by flagging off the Mobile IEC Van from the DC Office premises. This campaign aligns with theDistrict Health Society, South Andaman under National Health Mission’s broader objective of promoting community-based preventive care and ensuring that every child has access to timely and effective treatment.
The campaign will continue until 31st August 2025, aiming to significantly reduce diarrhoeal cases among children under five years of age during the high-risk monsoon season. It emphasizes preventive healthcare and strengthening service delivery through intensified awareness and outreach.
A specialMobile IEC Van will traverse across the South Andaman District, broadcasting audio messages and displaying educational materials on safe hygiene practices, clean drinking water, sanitation, and the importance of ORS and Zinc during diarrhoeal episodes. Simultaneously, all health centres across the district will conduct intensified IEC activities within their local areas to reinforce campaign messaging.
Key focus areas of the campaign include:
-Promoting awareness on handwashing, safe water usage and sanitation.
-Ensuring uninterrupted availability and distribution of ORS and Zinc at all Health & Wellness Centres, Anganwadi Centres and through ASHAs.
-Organizing outreach sessions in schools, Anganwadi centres and during community gatherings.
-Coordinating with key departments like ICDS, PRI bodies, Education and Rural Development for intersectoral convergence.
-Monitoring of under-five children across the district for early identification and intervention.
Speaking at the launch, DC (SA) emphasized that diarrhoea continues to be a leading cause of under-five mortality and that timely action, community involvement, and effective service delivery can make a significant difference in saving young lives.
