Teachers’ Day Sports Events Wrap up with Enthusiastic Participation

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 4: The Teachers’ Day Sports celebrations, organized by the Directorate of Education, A & N Administration, concluded on a high note today with a series of thrilling final events held at the Multipurpose Hall, Netaji Stadium, and Teachers’ Home, VIP Road, Sri Vijaya Puram. The two-day activities witnessed enthusiastic participation from teachers and staff, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and camaraderie.

At the Multipurpose Hall, the Women’s Badminton Doubles title was clinched by the duo of Shamli Bairagi and Anisha Banu, while Shrimati Bishnoi and Shiva Devi secured the runners-up position. In Men’s Table Tennis Doubles, the pair of E. Dhanasekharan and B. Bhima Rao emerged winners, with Shasi Kumar and Arvind Patil finishing as runners-up.

The afternoon session at Netaji Stadium drew much excitement with the 100 Metres Sprint and Tug of War events. In the Tug of War (Women), Directorate of Education XI stood winners while DEO SA PET XI were runners-up. In the Men’s category, South Andaman XI claimed victory, with DEO SA PET XI as runners-up.

The 100 Metres Sprint witnessed energetic performances across all categories. In the Men’s above 50 years category, Shyamal Biswas secured the first position, followed by P. Mohan in second and K. Poomali in third. In the Women’s above 50 years category, Rama Lal emerged winner, while G. Panchavarnam and Beena Kerketta finished second and third respectively. In the Men’s below 50 years category, R. Ganesh claimed the top spot, with Milan Mazumder and Thomas Paul Das securing second and third positions. In the Women’s below 50 years category, Tanuja Mondal stood first, followed by Shyamali Bairagi in second and Neeti Biswas in third place.

Meanwhile, the much-awaited Chess Tournament was held at Teachers’ Home, VIP Road. In the Men’s category, V. Purusotham secured the first position, followed by B. Madhava Rao and Thomas Paul Das in second and third places respectively. In the Women’s category, Panchavarnam secured first position, while Anjali Devi and K. Tamil Chelvi finished second and third respectively.

All prize winners are requested to attend the Teachers’ Day function at the auditorium of Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), Middle Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, at 4:00 pm, where prizes will be distributed by the Chief Guest.
