Sri Vijaya Puram, March 8: Shri Subash Mondal, a resident of Khichad Nallah at Little Andaman Island, has scripted a remarkable success story by transforming from a private daily wage worker into a confident and profitable poultry farmer with the support of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS).
Due to lack of steady employment opportunities, Shri Subash Mondal, S/o Shri Ravi Mondal, decided to venture into poultry farming to generate regular income and improve his livelihood. With absolutely no prior knowledge or experience in the field, he took the bold step with guidance and continuous hand-holding from the AH&VS Department.
He received day-old poultry chicks at Government rates and free medications as and when required. Through the Department’s farmers’ training programmes, he learned all essential scientific management practices and modern techniques of poultry rearing. His hard work and dedication have started yielding excellent results. Recently, he successfully sold his trial batch of birds and earned good profit. As on 15th January 2026, Shri Subash is maintaining more than 300 Nicobari and Vanaraja chicks on his farm and is now preparing his next batch for sale.
The inspiring journey of Shri Subash Mondal highlights how the Department of AH&VS is empowering rural youth and farmers of Little Andaman through quality inputs, timely technical support, free medicines and capacity-building training.
The Department has congratulated Shri Subash Mondal on his achievement and expressed hope that his success story will motivate many more unemployed youth and daily wagers in the islands to take up poultry farming as a sustainable and profitable livelihood option.
