Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 12: The people residing in Southern Group of Islands like Campbell Bay, Car Nicobar, Kamorta, Katchal etc. have always been facing problems related to delay & shortage in fuel supply particularly the petroleum products. In addition to delay in supply or shortage, safety during transits of petroleum products in barrels on board general cargo vessels, was a matter of concern since last many years.
To resolve this long pending issue the Indian Oil Corporation has inducted a new barge named MT IRIS for operations in Andaman & Nicobar Sea area.
This barge was inaugurated yesterday by the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A & N Islands Dr. Dinesh Sharma.
In addition to the fuel supply problem the Islanders are facing frequent crisis of LPG Cylinders. It is soothing to learn that the Lt. Governor has taken a pro-active action to deliberate on the issue with the top officials of Indian Oil Corporation, requesting them to augment the storage capacity of LPG in the Islands to ensure strengthening of LPG Supply system.
Shri. Anil Kumar Tiwari, State President, BJP, A & N Islands has expressed his gratitude to the Lt. Governor for his sensitive approach in taking up the most important issue of energy supply to the Islanders.
