Tourism Department in Collaboration with ANET-Dakshin Foundation Organises Inter-Tidal Walk

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 17: The Tourism Department, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Andaman and Nicobar Environment Team (ANET)-Dakshin Foundation, is organizing a four-day training programme on conducting Inter-tidal walk on 17.04.2026, 25.04.2026, 27.04.2026, and 30.04.2026. The trainees have been selected from among those who previously underwent Tour Guide and Eco Tour Guide training programmes conducted by the Department.

The programme aims to enhance the guiding skills of participants while introducing a unique experiential offering for tourists, along with promoting awareness and practical understanding of inter-tidal ecosystems.

The training commenced with an informative classroom session at the ANET field station North Wandoor, where experts Ms. Madhuri Mondal and Shri Tanmay Wagh introduced participants to various aspects of inter-tidal ecology, including tidal zones, waves, and currents. The session also covered the ecological significance, biodiversity, and conservation aspects of inter-tidal habitats, along with essential guiding techniques and do’s and don’ts for effectively engaging tourists. Participants were sensitized to marine life, habitat fragility, and responsible tourism practices. Following the theory session, a field-based inter-tidal walk was conducted at the rocky inter-tidal shore opposite the Science Centre.

In addition to the Training Program, an inter-tidal walk was also organized for tour operators and tourists, providing them with a first-hand experiential understanding of the inter-tidal ecosystem. Participants observed a variety of marine organisms including sea cucumbers, brittle stars, rock crabs, sea urchins and other inter-tidal species in their natural habitat. Researchers from ANET guided the participants throughout the walk, explaining species identification, ecological interactions, and conservation measures. The programme concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from all attendees.
