
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 23: As part of its on-going initiative to promote niche segments of tourism during the off-season, the Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with Avian Club Andaman & Nicobar, will be organizing a Public Lecture on Bird Watching in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 26th July at 11 am in the Training Hall of Department of Disaster Management to create awareness on Islands rich avifaunal diversity, potential on different segments of Tourism encouraging responsible travel practices that benefit both the environment and local communities.
The lecture will be delivered by Shri Arun Singh, a noted Ornithologist and President of the Avian Club, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who has been at the forefront of bird conservation and eco-tourism advocacy in the region.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are home to more than 270 species of birds, including several endemics found nowhere else in the world. With its pristine forests, wetlands, and unique Island ecosystems, make the Islands a paradise for birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, and eco-conscious travellers.
This initiative is aligned with the Tourism Department’s broader goal of diversifying tourism offerings; extending tourist stays promoting conservation-linked livelihoods during the monsoon and lean seasons and positioning the Islands as a year-round destination, particularly by encouraging interest in eco-tourism and nature-based experiences.
The Directorate of Tourism has invited citizens, students, and tourism stakeholders to attend and participate actively in this knowledge-sharing initiative.
Local residents, tour operators, tourism stakeholders, nature lovers, students, and tourists have also been invited to attend and participate actively in this knowledge-sharing initiative and the interactive session.
