
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 9: The High Value Agriculture Development Agency (HVADA) and Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with the National Bee Board, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is organizing a two-day training programme on Scientific Beekeeping. This initiative is taken up under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) scheme to promote sustainable apiculture practices and enhance rural livelihoods. The training is being held across 30 Gram Panchayats of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and tribal villages of Car Nicobar and Little Andaman, commencing from 25th June, 2025 onwards.
This training programme has been organized with a focus on expanding farmers’ participation and strengthening the foundation for community-led apiculture development in these islands.
To facilitate effective knowledge dissemination, a beginner’s guide/ training manual on Scientific Beekeeping was distributed in Hindi, Bengali, and Nicobari languages. The training featured interactive sessions led by subject-matter experts, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into scientific beekeeping practices. A total of 690 participants including farmers, members of Self-Help Groups, and tribal youth have gained valuable skills and understanding in the field of scientific beekeeping through this initiative.
The programme will continue till 17th July, 2025, covering 10 additional Panchayats across various zones, further extending its reach and impact.
