Transport Department Conducts the First Day Long Road Safety Awareness Camp at Swaraj Dweep

Swaraj Dweep, May 30: Transport Department conducted a day long Road Safety Awareness Camp in the Community Hall of Shyam Nagar Panchayat, being the first such camp, at Swaraj Dweep recently. This Camp was organized with active participation of PRIs, local citizens, Police, Health Department and other stakeholders. The aim of the event was to provide on the spot services and to address the issues related to Motor Vehicle Department alongwith creating awareness about road safety among road users.

The event was jointly inaugurated by Shri. Sushant Padha, IAS, AC (Swaraj Dweep) and Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Director (Transport).

In his address, the Director (Transport) highlighted the vision of Hon’ble Lt. Governor and Chief Secretary, ANI towards ensuring delivery of services to the public and regular follow up. He requested the gathering to bring to his notice in case, of any inconvenience faced by them in availing the services provided by Transport Department. For this, the public can contact him through Department’s Whatsapp number, Control room, e-mail or through phone number.

Speaking on the occasion, AC (Swaraj Dweep) explained various Government schemes implemented by GoI for the benefits of accident victims and Good Samaritans. He informed the gathering that the accident victims can avail cashless treatment upto Rs. 1,50,000 to the victims of road accidents in any Government designated hospitals.

Shri. Apurva Chandra Roy, Member, Zilla Parishad, and Shri. Alok Mridha, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Shyam Nagar expressed gratitude to Transport Department and Director (Transport) for conducting the road safety awareness program.

Shri. Feroz Alam, SDPO, Swaraj Dweep urged the youngsters to avail this oppurtunity for obtaining driving license.

Earlier, Assistant Director (Transport) welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of traffic laws. He advised citizens to follow the traffic rules to bring down road accident fatalities in the UT. Speaking on the occasion, the Sub Inspector, P. S Swaraj Dweep highlighted the issues of Drunken Driving and Traffic Safety.

The event included activities such as issuing learner’s license, renewal of license, Old Driving license renewal, fitness inspection of vehicles, permit related services and medical checkups for aspiring applicants for learner’s licenses. During the camp, around 74 persons availed the on-spot services of Motor Vehicles Department.
