Transport Department Organises Awareness Programme on POSH Act, 2013

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 12: The Department of Transport, A&N Administration, in its continued commitment to promoting a safe and dignified workplace for all employees, organized an Awareness Programme on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013 today in the Conference Hall of TGCE. The programme witnessed the active participation of about 120 staff members from the Department of Transport, who attended the session to enhance their understanding of the provisions and objectives of the Act.

The programme was attended by Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Director of Transport. In his address to the gathering, he highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy, respectful, and professional workplace culture. He reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees and stated that any instance of harassment would be dealt with in a serious and transparent manner. He further encouraged all staff members to maintain open communication and assured that the Department remains committed to providing a supportive and approachable work environment where employees can freely express their concerns without hesitation.

The technical session was conducted by Smti. Rubina Katib Siddiqui, Founder President of Rights for All, NGO, who delivered an informative and interactive presentation on the key provisions of the POSH Act, 2013. She explained the definition of sexual harassment, the constitution and role of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and the procedures for filing and resolving complaints. She also elaborated on the responsibilities of employers in maintaining a safe workplace and shared practical examples and case studies to help participants clearly understand the preventive and redressal mechanisms available under the Act. Her session greatly enhanced participants’ awareness of workplace rights, responsibilities, and the importance of gender sensitivity and mutual respect.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Shri B. Binoy, Deputy Director (HQ), who welcomed all participants and conveyed his gratitude to the Director of Transport for his guidance and encouragement in organizing such an important event.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Smti. Uday Kumari, Assistant Director (Admn), who expressed her gratitude to the organizing team for successfully conducting a meaningful and informative awareness programme.
