
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 10: As part of the celebrations of the International Year of Cooperatives-2025, the Deptt. of Cooperation in collaboration with the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union and the Forest Deptt. organized a Tree Plantation Drive under the theme of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ in the premises of the A&N State Cooperative Union, Teylerabad yesterday.
The event was graced by the Secretary (Cooperation)-cum-RCS as the chief guest. The officials from the Deptt. of Cooperation, Forest Deptt., Board of Directors, faculty and trainees of A&N State Cooperative Union participated in the event.
Over 700 saplings of fruit bearing trees were planted with the support of Forest Deptt. during the Van Mahotsav two-day drive.
While addressing the gathering, the Secretary (Coop) highlighted the importance of tree plantation in enhancing ecological balance and community well-being. He also invoked the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” and Viksit Bharat, urging cooperative societies to embed environmental responsibility into their core activities for a greener and prosperous future. He underlined the significant role of cooperative societies in promoting social responsibility, stressing how these institutions are instrumental in taking forward grassroot level initiatives.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Shri K.P. Aboo Backer, General Secretary of A&N State Cooperative Union.
