Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 10: The Andaman & Nicobar Police has apprehended the two Myanmar nationals, namely Wai Phyo and Aye Tun, who had escaped from the Open Distress Camp (ODC), Prothrapur on the intervening night of 25/26 July, 2026.
Immediately after the escape, an intensive search operation was launched by the Andaman & Nicobar Police. Search teams carried out extensive combing operations in and around Prothrapur and other adjoining areas. Multiple teams were deployed round the clock and all available resources were mobilized to trace and apprehend the absconding individuals.
After sustained and relentless efforts, the escapees were apprehended through the coordinated action of the South Andaman District Police and India Reserve Battalion (IRBn). The operation was further strengthened by the information provided by local residents of Prothrapur, Beodnabad, Burmanallah and Chidiyatapu, whose vigilance and support played a significant role in the successful outcome of the operation.
The Andaman & Nicobar Police expressed its sincere appreciation to all participating agencies and the members of the public for their cooperation and assistance. The successful apprehension reflects the importance of coordinated policing and community participation in maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law. The general public who supported in search operation will be awarded with appropriate cash reward.
The apprehended individuals are being dealt with in accordance with the provisions of law and further legal proceedings are under process.
