Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 18: To promote scientific and sustainable farming practices, the Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, organized a series of activities including Demonstrations, Training Programmes, Kharif Campaigns and Block Farmer Advisory Committee (BFAC) Meetings across various blocks of the Islands. A demonstration on “Intercropping with spices in the Existing Arecanut/Coconut Plantation” was conducted at Gandhinagar village in the field of Shri Gour Ch. Das, Diglipur block. The programme was attended by officials from the Department of Agriculture, ATMA staff, Farmers’ Friends, and local farmers. On the same day, the first session of a two-day training programme on “Hygienic Handling of Fish during Fishing & Post-Harvest Techniques” was held at Vishnupur village, Rangat, in the field of Shri Samiran Mondal, Sarpanch. The training was jointly organized with the Department of Fisheries, with active participation of officials from the Departments of Fisheries, Agriculture, and AH&VS, besides ATMA functionaries and Farmers’ Friends. Farmers were sensitized on best practices, Government schemes, and sustainable techniques relevant to the Kharif season.
A Kharif Campaign was also conducted at R.K. Pur village, Little Andaman, in the field of Shri Roopchand Biswas.
