Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 14: In an effort to promote and encourage fodder cultivation among livestock owners, the Senior Veterinary Officer (SVO), Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma, along with his team, distributed 6,500 Super Napier stem cuttings to 21 livestock owners on 12th September, 2026. The distribution was carried out among 20 livestock owners in the New Bimblitan area and one livestock owner at Sippighat Village under Gram Panchayat, Sippighat.
During the programme, the SVO provided detailed guidance to the livestock owners on the cultivation of Super Napier fodder, covering important aspects such as suitable soil conditions, spacing of cuttings, row-to-row spacing, irrigation requirements, expected yield and growth cycle. The livestock owners were also encouraged to adopt scientific fodder cultivation practices to ensure regular availability of quality green fodder for their livestock.
Shri Mani Vannan, PRI Member, was also present during the programme and extended his support towards the initiative.
As part of the livestock welfare measures, 5 Pashu Pushti Kits were also distributed to livestock owners for animals that had undergone ETT, to supplement their nutritional requirements and support their health and productivity.
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services continues to undertake such field-level initiatives to improve fodder availability, livestock nutrition and the overall productivity of livestock owners in the Islands.
