Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 14: Veer Savarkar International Airport conducted a Fog-Preparedness Meeting as part of its annual winter operations planning to ensure safe, smooth and efficient aircraft operations during fog conditions.
The meeting was chaired by airport authority and attended by representatives from all key stakeholders, including Airlines, Ground Handling Agencies, CISF, CNS, and Operations.
During the meeting, all stakeholders were comprehensively briefed on the airport’s Fog Management Plan. Detailed discussions were held on roles and responsibilities of each agency, coordination mechanisms, communication protocols, passenger facilitation measures, and readiness of critical infrastructure such as airfield lighting, Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), RVR equipment and navigational aids. Airport Director- Sh. Muneer Madampat briefed that though our airport is not prone to fogs, however, we all should be ready for any exigencies arising due to fog disruptions at other major airports subsequently delays at VSI Airport.
Emphasis was laid on timely dissemination of weather information, strict adherence to safety procedures, availability of trained manpower, and seamless inter-agency coordination during fog conditions. Stakeholders were also advised to remain vigilant and ensure compliance with prescribed standard operating procedures to minimize disruption and enhance passenger safety and comfort.
The airport authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency during the forthcoming fog season through proactive planning, coordination and preparedness.
