
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 28: The XXIV State School Games & 9th State Level Competition for CwSN got underway at the historic Netaji Stadium here today. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, inaugurated the games by hoisting the ‘Meet Flag’ as the chief guest. He unveiled the ‘Overall Championship Trophy’ and released the ‘Technical Bulletin’ of the Games in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Director (Education), Shri Vikram Singh, other senior officer of Education Department and a good gathering of sports enthusiasts.
Declaring the meet open, the chief guest lauded the efforts of the Education Department in organizing the event. The Chief Secretary lauded the impressive march past presented by participating contingents and CwSN students and cultural programme.
Mentioning about the students’ team from Car Nicobar who have participated in the recent National Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Championship, the Chief Secretary stated that the Islands team have won the ‘Fair Play Award’ and has brought laurels for not only to A&N Islands but the whole country. This is an inspiration to all other sportsperson to play the game with utmost honesty, he said.
Mentioning that there is no dearth of talents in sports in Isles, the Chief Secretary underlined the need to move in a focused manner to achieve more accolades in the field of sports. Sports are also an integral part of Education and if you work hard in sports, then you will achieve success, the Chief Secretary remarked.
Turning to the School Games, the Chief Secretary urged the participants from all the 9 Educational Zones to actively participate in the games with true sportsmanship spirit stating that “You must enjoy what you are doing then only you will succeed”. This is also an occasion where you can build camaraderie and learn something new, the Chief Secretary added. Concluding his speech, the Chief Secretary said that sports keep a person healthy, develops the spirit of competition and also foster cooperation.
The Director (Edn.), Shri Vikram Singh welcomed the chief guest and others present on the occasion.
The State School Games are a great opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their sports talents. Altogether, 990 students from all the Nine Educational Zones & CwSN students are participating in the Games.
A spectacular March Past was held, in which, students from all the nine Educational Zones of the Islands participated. The highlight of the colourful cultural event was Yoga Nritiya presented by the students of GSSS Boys & GDMS. The students of GSSS Girls presented a dance showcasing the significance of sports, which was appreciated by one and all present in the Stadium.
Earlier, in the morning, the Chief Secretary lit the meet torch from the premises of Secretariat.

In the 100 Mtrs. (Boys)- Mohammed Sinan, Wimberlygunj, Shakil Bhagwar, Rangat and George Alwyn, Little Andaman stood first, second & third respectively.
In the 400 Mtrs. (Boys)- M. Mohammed Sinan, Wimberlygunj, Pintu Ram, Sri Vijaya Puram and Edwin, Car Nicobar stood first, second & third respectively.
In the 200 Mtrs. (Girls)- Jigyasa Sai, Sri Vijaya Puram, Sendella, Car Nicobar and Sushi Mitha Alwyn, Wimberlygunj stood first, second & third respectively.
In the 400 mtrs (Girls)- Rinki Kumari, Sri Vijaya Puram, Muskan Tigga, Little Andaman and Esanti Ekka, Diglipur stood first, second & third respectively.

In the Ball Throw for ID (Girls) – Salina Devi, Maybunder, T. Sreenithi, Campbell Bay and Elsie, Wimberlygunj stood first, second & third respectively.
In the Long Jump HI (Boys)- Diwarkar Raj, Wimberlygunj, Birbal Lohra, Campbell Bay and D. Tarun, Rangat stood first, second & third respectively.
In the100 Mtrs ID (Girls)- B. Anita Rangat, P Bhavna, Sri Vijaya Puram, Rose Lilly, Car Nicobar stood first, second & third respectively.
In the Long Jump HI (Girls)- V Sireesha, Wimberlygunj, N Sirisha, Little Andaman, M Ranjana, Sri Vijaya Puram stood first, second & third respectively.
