You Wanted His Blessings Sir?

Since you visited a church sir, I suppose you went looking for blessings. That cathedral is grand enough to give that impression.

But here is the inconvenient truth sir. God’s blessings are not dispensed like prasad after a brief appearance. They follow obedience not optics. There are no shortcuts through stained glass.

You cannot step into a church on Christmas or on Sunday and expect heaven to rubber stamp what you practise from Monday to Saturday. It does not work that way sir.

Blessings are not bribes. They are consequences. And they flow through instructions. Those instructions are not hidden in incense or ritual but written plainly in the Bible you briefly acknowledged by your presence.

Since you did visit a church let me assume you are open to listening. Otherwise, I would not bother. Scripture has a particular word of caution for leaders. It appears again and again because power has a peculiar effect on the human spine. Leaders often begin well. They listen. They consult. They surround themselves with wise counsel. Then success swells. Crowds cheer. Cameras follow. Advisors become flatterers. And slowly the leader begins to believe he is indispensable. Almost divine.

The Bible has a description for that moment. It is the moment before the fall.

Take Samson. Not the phone brand sir, but the judge of Israel. Endowed with extraordinary strength he began to think the power was his own. Judges chapter sixteen records his most foolish sentence. When danger came, he said ‘I will go out as at other times before.’ He did not know that the Spirit of God had left him.

That single sad sentence should be framed in every office of power. Confidence without God’s blessing, is blindness.

The New Testament echoes the same warning.’ Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.’ That verse was not written for drunkards in alleys but for upright men in high places.

The fall comes out of arrogance.

And then there is the most uncomfortable mirror of all. Revelation chapter three speaks of people who boast they are rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing. God’s verdict is chilling. ‘you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.’

When nations begin advertising their greatness loudly it is often because they are trying to convince themselves.

Sounds familiar? Telling the country and the world how strong we are, how self-sufficient and morally superior we are?

While dissent is crushed, truth is bent, and minorities are told to adjust?

Since you visited a church consider this a courtesy note. God does not bless performance. He blesses a change of heart. He does not reward power. He honours humility. Walk carefully sir, because the Instruction manual of the church you visited, the Bible, ends its warning with words worth remembering. ‘Take heed. Lest ye fall!’

In other words, it’s God, whispering to you, ‘Obey, or else…!’
