Port Blair, July 11: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Bishnu Pada Ray today laid the foundation stones for two new public utility works in Port Blair apart from inaugurating two recently completed works. Ray was accompanied by Smti Rupa Ray, Smti Sheela Singh, Coucillor Ward no 15 and Shri Aziz ur Rehman, Ward no 6,  among others.

The completed works include: High drain to check flow to the shop & house owners from Minnie Bay Junction to Kripanand colony at ward No-10 under Municipal Council with total sanctioned amount of Rs 18,06,233.00 under MPLAD fund. Retaining Wall at Shadipur Ward No-15  (near Murugan Temple) under Municipal council with total sanctioned amount of Rs 21,86,430.00 under MPLAD fund.

The works for which foundation stones were laid are: Construction of R.C.C Retaining Wall at Haddo Ward No-1 (near Kalimatha Temple) under Municipal area in Port Blair with total sanctioned amount of Rs 8,17,863.00 under MPLAD fund. Extension of Coolie labour shed (Mazdoor vishram Stal)  at Shivaram Complex at Port Blair with a total sanctioned amount of Rs 9,92,000.00 under MPLAD fund.

 

Port Blair, July 11: Knowledge Sharing Meet was held at ICAR NEH, Barapani, on 9th July, 2013   ,wherein Dr S.V.Ngachan  Director,   ICAR, Research Complex was the Chief Guest , Dr. M.Datta Joint Director,ICAR Research complex for NEH Region ,Tripura Centre was the Guest of Honour and Dr. S. Damroy, Director ,CARI, Port Blair presided over the KSM.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Dr. S.V.Ngachan , Director , ICAR NEH Region lauded  the effort of CARI,Port Blair in coming forward to share the possible technologies in agriculture, and allied fields for possible intervention in the tribal areas for their socio-economic upliftment. He stressed on the demand of animal protein, since 95% of the population are meat consuming and also urged the visiting scientists from CARI, Port Blair to make use of the portal "KIRAN" for sharing the technologies available so that the information is disseminated to larger audience. 

Dr.S.Dam Roy, Director, CARI, in his presidential address said that the diversity of North Eastern States both in terms of agro and cultural biodiversity is enormous, perhaps the largest congregation of tribal India, hence, it is an opportunity to intervene through capacity building and demonstration programmes on the need based technologies at the farmers field in participatory mode by joining hands with ICAR Complex, NEH.  He thanked the Director, Joint Director’s, HOD’s & Scientists of ICAR Research Complex, Barapani for their  kind support and help for conducting the KSM.

The heads of the division from CARI and the ICAR complex NEH also shared and discussed on technological options for livelihood of the tribal farmers.

Port Blair, July 10: The PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has demanded the PBMC Chairman to reconstruct the Municipal Dharamshala and purchase 4 mortuary vans. In his letter Sharma wrote that the present condition of Municipal Dharamshala is not suitable for human dwelling.

Sharma also pointed out that the mortuary vans of PBMC have also become too old and unsuitable to carry the dead bodies. The near and dears of the deceased use such vans due to the reason that they are unable to carry the deceased of their own accord.

To feel sympathetic with such grieved person and give honour to the dead body, the PBMC must provide them proper mortuary van, said Sharma. He therefore demanded purchase of four vans out of which two should be air-conditioned to carry the dead bodies to inter islands by road to avoid any decomposing of the body.

He was accompanied by the State President BJP Shri Vishal Jolly, State Vice President BJP Smti Rupa Ray among other leaders, PRI members and general public.

Huge receptions were accorded by public at all places and paid gratitude to the MP for agreeing to sanction money from MPLAD fund.

The works for which the foundation stones were laid are as under:

1. Construction of Community hall at Hobdipur Ward No.I under Tushnabad Panchayat, Ferrargunj Tehsil, Sanctioned Estimate Cost- Rs. 49,58,000.00, Location- Hobdipur, South Andaman.

2. Construction of Anganwadi Centre, under Brindaban Panchayat, Ward No. III, Saitankhari. Sanctioned Estimate Cost: Rs. 27,00,000.00, Location- Brindaban, South Andaman.

3. Construction of RCC shed for graveyard at Muslim Basti under Ograbraj Panchayat. Sanctioned Estimate Cost- Rs 18,99,623.00, Location Muslim Basti, Ograbraj, South Andaman.

4. Construction of Anganwadi Centre, under Ferrrgunj Panchayat, Tanky basti, Ward No.I. Sanctioned Estimate Cost: Rs. 18,62,171.00, Location- Ferrargunj, south Andaman.

5. Construction of Community Hall at Chouldari in Ferrargunj Tehsil. Sanctioned Estimate Cost:- Rs. 83,64,000.00, Location: Chouldari, South Andaman.

6. Construction of Boundary Wall and Footpath at Phoenix Bay Muslim Graveyard at Kendriya Vidyalaya and Carmel School under MPLADS. Sanctioned Amount -Rs. 33,52,900.00, Location- Phoenix Bay, Port Blair.

Shri Ray also inaugurated the Christian Graveyard at Mithakhari, Ward No II under Ograbraj Panchayat, South Andaman constructed under MPLAD sanctioned Amount of Rs. 6,26,246.00 and also  Installed Aqua guard with cooler and pipeline for drinking water to staff of Govt Press at Port Blair under MPLAD sanctioned Amount  of Rs. 3,75,000.00.

Port Blair, July 10:  Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President has once again placed the demand for increasing MBBS seats from allotted quota of 15 to 40 for the students of this islands through his letters to S/shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Home Minister and  Shri Gulam Navi Azad, Union Health Minister.

Referring his meeting held on 4th June, 2013 at New Delhi and his earlier correspondences the PCC President has reminded the Union Home Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde for enhancing the quota of MBBS.

Sharma stated that out of 400 Schools of A&N Islands, average 7500 students pass out successfully each year in their class XII examinations conducted by CBSE and due to scarcity of allotted quota of MBBS seats many meritorious students are not considered for those 15 seats.

He also requested to release the enhanced quota at an early date as the counselling of already allotted seats of MBBS will start by the A&N Administration soon.

Quoting that Shri Ghulam Navi Azad, Minister of Health’s has proposed to increase MBBS seats in the Country by allowing government and recognized private medical colleges to do so as one-time measure, Sharma stated that as per this proposal, total 18450 MBBS seats will be made available in the 369 Govt Medical colleges of mainland. Accordingly Sharma has again requested the Home Minister to consider his proposal of enhancing quota of 40 numbers of MBBS seats from the already allotted 15 numbers seats to the A&N Administration

Port Blair, July 10: The Chairman, A&N Coop Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma today handed over cheques to the Great Andamanese of Strait Island, who sold their copra produced to the Federation under Price Support Scheme 2013.

The names of beneficiaries are Shri Kishan Chand (Rs. 14,175/-), Smti Surmae (Rs. 8,610/-), Shri Olake (Rs. 9,817/-), Shri Tong  (Rs. 3, 467/-), Smti Rea (Rs. 9,187/-) and  Smti Leecho (Rs. 7, 245/-).

Expressing his happiness over the activities of the tribe, Sharma emphasized that encouragement of the tribal growers be made by extending necessary help for producing copra as much as possible, so that their economic condition could be developed further.

He has also thanked the In-charge, Great Andamanese Settlement, Strait Island for immense efforts in encouraging the tribal growers to produce copra and sell to the Federation.

Meanwhile the Great Andamanese have made a demand for copra dryer to which the Chairman has assured to look into the matter.

The Directors, Ravindar Rao, Anant Rao, K. Subramaniyan and MK Srinivasan, General Manager, ANCOFED were also present on the occasion.

Port Blair, July 10: Like every year, the Directorate of Health Services will observe “World Population Day” on 11th July 2013 with the theme “Chhota parivar - Sukhi Parivar” in Andaman & Nicobar Islands in befitting manner along with rest of the country.

On this occasion a month long awareness programmes from 27th June - 24th July 2013 will be conducted by the Health Department to create awareness about ‘population stabilization’ among general public of this Union Territory involving PRIs, Para Medical Personnel, Anganwadi workers, NGOs, ASHAs, Youth Clubs & students.

The main function of the “World Population Day 2013” will be organized at Chouldari Panchayat Hall on 11th July 2013 at 10.30 AM. Smti. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N state Social Welfare Advisory Board, A & N Administration will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.
