
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 8: In a significant milestone towards strengthening primary healthcare delivery, the Department of Health Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has achieved the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW)’s 2025 target for quality certification. 75 health facilities have secured State-level National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification, out of which 30 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs / Sub-Centres (AAM/SCs) have further achieved National-level NQAS certification under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, 16 from South Andaman District, 4 from Nicobar District and 10 from North and Middle District.
NQAS certification is a nationally recognized benchmark of healthcare quality that ensures patient safety, standardized clinical care, and effective governance across public health facilities. It drives continuous quality improvement, strengthens accountability, and enhances public trust in Government healthcare services. This prestigious achievement reflects the unwavering commitment of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to ensure quality-assured, patient-centric, safe, and effective healthcare services at the grassroots level.
This achievement aligns with the objectives of the national vision of “Quality Healthcare for All”, ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare services, even in the remote and geographically challenging areas of the Islands.
Taking cognizance of the fact that quality healthcare is driven by skilled human resources, the Health Department has prioritized capacity building and institutional strengthening. In collaboration with the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), intensive training programmes were conducted during the year, resulting in 95 frontline health professionals—including Community Health Officers (CHOs), Public Health Nurses (PHNs), and Multi-Purpose Health Workers (MPHWs)—successfully qualifying the Internal Assessor Examination.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration reiterates its commitment to further expanding NQAS certification across all public health facilities and continuously enhancing the quality of healthcare services for the people of the Islands.
