CPI (M) Opposes Proposal to Further Curtail Water Supply to City Dwellers

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 7: CPI (M) has opposed the proposal of the APWD and Municipal Council to resort to further curtailment of water to the people of Port Blair town and rural South Andaman areas. In a meeting of political parties convened by the Chairman, Municipal Council recently, a delegation of CPI (M) comprising D. Ayyappan, Secretary, State Organising Committee and Suresh Lall, vehemently opposed the move of the authorities to further curtail the water supply to the residents of Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram) Municipal area. At present, the water is supplied once in three days in the Municipal area. 

D. Ayyappan, CPI (M) State Secretary said that the Administration, Municipal Council and Panchayat-raj institutions failed to take any action to make sufficient water available to the people throughout the year but talk of water scarcity during the month of April. CPI (M) delegation put forward several suggestions in the meeting. Secretary, CPI (M) asked the Administration to take stringent action against those who encroach water sources, nallah, etc and fill it up for personal use. He also asked the APWD authorities present in the meeting to expedite the work of the proposed Dams at Guptapara and Maccapahad in South Andaman. CPI (M) Secretary also demanded cleaning all the wells including the neglected wells and other water sources in the town and put it on use to tide over the situation.   

CPI (M) State Secretary warned that if further curtailment in the water supply is resorted to, the Party will go on agitation by organizing the people.
