District Administration South Andaman Updates 1,102 Islander Identity Cards Through Special Camps at Swaraj Dweep

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 11: In compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, during his visit to Swaraj Dweep on 9th and 10th October 2026, the South Andaman District Administration organised special camps for the updation of Islander Identity Cards at Swaraj Dweep.

The camps were conducted on 10th and 11th October 2026 at the Community Halls of Govindnagar and Shyamnagar Gram Panchayats to facilitate the updation of Islander Identity cards for local residents.

During the camps, several existing Islander Identity Card holders, including those with long-pending cases, availed themselves of the services and got their cards updated on the spot. The services provided included correction of card details, changes of address and verification and inclusion of family members’ names.

The District Collector, South Andaman alongwith Shri. Ajit Kumar Roy, Pradhan Govindnagar and Shri. Alok Mridha, Pradhan, Shayamnagar also visited the ongoing camps to review the arrangements and ensure the smooth and effective delivery of services to the islanders.

In addition to the camps, house-to-house visits were conducted to assist elderly persons, Divyangjan and bedridden persons who were unable to visit the camp venues. This ensured that such residents could also avail themselves of the updation services without difficulty.

A total of 1,102 Islander Identity Cards were updated during the two-day camps, reflecting the positive response to the initiative and the efforts of the District Administration to provide accessible and citizen-friendly services.

Members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and local residents appreciated the initiative taken by the South Andaman District Administration, stating that the camps had made the updation process more convenient and accessible for the islanders.

The initiative has greatly benefited the residents of Swaraj Dweep by enabling them to access the services locally, without the need to travel to the Tehsil Office, thereby saving time and effort and ensuring greater convenience for the island community.
