Commissioner-cum-Secretary APWD alongwith Officials of APWD and PRIs of GP Mithakhari Inspect Key Water Projects in GP Mithakhari; Major Infrastructure Directions Issued

Mithakhari, April 19: On 18th April 2026, Dr. Sachin Shinde, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, APWD, along with Shri. Prijith Rekh, Chief Engineer, APWD, Shri. Mohd Safiq, Pradhan GP Mithakhari, Shri. P.A Sharfuddin, Zilla Parishad Member Mithakhari Constituency, Shri. T. Mohd Rafiq, Panchayat Samiti Member Mithakhari Constituency, and Shri. T.P. Mohammed Rafique, Sarpanch GP Mithakhari conducted a comprehensive inspection of ongoing and proposed water infrastructure projects within the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayat Mithakhari.

The delegation visited the ongoing water project at Ograbraj Bada Nallah and the proposed Water Treatment Plant at Alvis Tekrey. During the inspection, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary directed the Chief Engineer, APWD, to undertake the construction of a large-size pond at the earlier set-apart land allocated to Gram Panchayat Mithakhari at Alvis Tekrey, measuring approximately 3000 sq. meters, aimed at enhancing water storage and sustainability in the area.

Subsequently, the team visited Sona Pahad Dam, where the Commissioner-cum-Secretary instructed the concerned officials to construct one additional check weir to strengthen water conservation measures and improve water availability.

Further, the delegation inspected the Mithakhari Bada Nallah Check Weir, where directions were issued to initiate desilting work of the nallah and to construct an additional check weir near Panchayat Bhawan Mithakhari, ensuring improved water retention and groundwater recharge.

During the visit, Shri Mohd Safiq, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Mithakhari, submitted key local demands and urged the Commissioner-cum-Secretary to consider the construction of one more large-size pond at Mithakhari to address water scarcity concerns. Additionally, he requested the construction of a connecting road from M.E.S School Road to Ograbraj Bada Nallah Water Project to improve accessibility and facilitate project operations.

The visit reflects the Administration’s continued commitment towards strengthening water infrastructure and ensuring sustainable water management in rural areas of South Andaman.
