Sri Vijaya Puram, April 29: The Chairman of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (ANIBOCWWB) and Secretary (Labour & Employment), Shri L. Kumar, IAS, convened the 33rd meeting of the Board today in the Conference Hall of the Office of the Labour Commissioner, A & N Administration, Supply Line, Sri Vijay Puram. The meeting was attended by nominee of the Central Government, representatives of A & N Administration, employers, and trade unions.
During the meeting, various issues relating to the extension of social security benefits to registered construction workers were deliberated upon. The Chairman emphasized the need for effective and timely delivery of welfare benefits to all eligible beneficiaries. He also stressed the importance of enhancing awareness among workers engaged at construction sites across the Islands to ensure the enrolment of all eligible workers under the Board, enabling them to avail social security assistances.
After detailed deliberations on the agenda items, the Board unanimously approved the release of Rs10.59 lakhs towards settlement of 56 claims submitted by registered eligible beneficiary workers under various welfare schemes. These include Pension Benefit, Maternity Benefit, Medical Assistance, and Death Assistance. The Board further decided that all approved financial assistance shall be disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board was established in 2009 with the objective of providing social security and welfare benefits to the registered building and other construction workers. At present, the Board is implementing nine welfare schemes for registered beneficiaries. Since its inception, the Board has disbursed a total of ₹36.66 crores to eligible workers under various schemes.
