Department of Agriculture, Mayabunder Organises Training Programme on Natural Farming

Mayabunder, July 7: In order to promote sustainable agriculture, the Department of Agriculture, Mayabunder, in collaboration with UTATMA and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nimbudera organized a two-day training programme on Natural Farming under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) – National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) at the Karmatang and Webi clusters of Mayabunder on 3rd and 4th July, 2026.

During the technical session, Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Head, KVK Nimbudera elaborated on the role of natural farming in restoring soil fertility and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability. He explained the adverse impact of prolonged chemical fertilizer use on soil organic carbon and shared practical approaches for improving soil health through natural farming techniques.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Smt. Shamna Salam, Agriculture Officer, Mayabunder highlighted the objectives of the CSS-National Mission on natural farming and underscored the growing importance of sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices. During the practical session, hands-on training on the preparation and application of bio-inputs such as Jeevamrit and Neemastra, was conducted by ATMA staff of Mayabunder block. The live demonstrations provided participants with valuable practical knowledge to prepare these formulations independently for use in their farms.

The practical demonstrations enabled farmers, Krishi Sakhis and SHG members to gain first-hand experience in preparing these inputs for use in their fields. As part of the programme, the Department of Agriculture, Mayabunder distributed Natural Farming kits comprising study materials, FAQ booklets and notepads to all enrolled farmers. In addition, 250 drums were distributed to farmers from the Karmatang and Webi clusters under the National Mission on Natural Farming to facilitate the preparation of bio-inputs.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from 90 stakeholders, including enrolled farmers, Krishi Sakhis, Self-Help Group (SHG) members, ATMA staff and officials of the Agriculture Department, Mayabunder.
