
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 27: The Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), Sri Vijaya Puram, in collaboration with the NSS Unit-II of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), organized a Tree Plantation Drive under the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s flagship initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” The programme was held in association with the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and the Andaman Nicobar Ship Owners Association (ANSOA).
The drive was inaugurated by Shri Gopikrishna C., Engineer & Ship Surveyor-cum-Deputy Director General (Tech) and Surveyor-in-Charge, MMD, Sri Vijaya Puram, who briefed the participants on the objectives of the plantation drive and emphasized the importance of geo-tagging the planted saplings to facilitate their monitoring and long-term maintenance.
Prof. (Dr.) Sanmukh Kaur, Principal, DBRAIT, motivated the participants by emphasizing the importance of collective action in protecting the environment and making the plantation drive a meaningful success. Dr. Muthu Kumaran E., NSS Programme Officer, Unit-II, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s flagship initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” which encourages every citizen to plant a tree in honour of their mother. Captain R. Ananth Kumar, Master Mariner, appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Mercantile Marine Department, DBRAIT, IRS, and ANSOA in organizing the programme and encouraged continued partnerships for environmental sustainability.
Around 100 saplings were planted across the institute campus with the enthusiastic participation of B.Tech students, faculty members, staff, and officials from the collaborating organizations. The programme concluded with a theme to nurture the planted saplings and work collectively towards.
The event was concluded the true spirit of NSS motto “Not Me, But You.”
