Sri Vijaya Puram, July 27: The District Administration, South Andaman, in collaboration with the Police Department and line Department inaugurated the DC SP Cup Inter-Village Volleyball Championship 2026 at Wandoor Beach today. The championship aims to promote sports, youth empowerment and community participation while spreading awareness on the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman and the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, as the chief guests. The event was attended by senior officers of the District Administration and Police Department, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, officials from various line Departments, sportspersons, youth and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guests emphasized that sports play a transformative role in shaping disciplined and confident young citizens. They highlighted that constructive engagement in sports not only nurtures physical fitness and teamwork but also serves as an effective deterrent against substance abuse. The youth were encouraged to actively participate in sporting activities and channel their energy towards nation-building, healthy living and community service.
As part of the inaugural programme, a Beach Cleaning Drive was organized under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, wherein officers, players, volunteers and local residents collectively participated in cleaning the Wandoor Beach. The participants also reaffirmed their commitment towards maintaining clean public spaces and protecting the coastal ecosystem.
The Championship was inaugurated with an exciting opening match between Wimberlygunj Gram Panchayat and Wandoor Gram Panchayat. Displaying remarkable teamwork and sportsmanship, Wandoor Gram Panchayat emerged victorious in the inaugural fixture amidst enthusiastic support from spectators.
By combining sports with the messages of Nasha Mukta Abhiyan, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and environmental protection, the championship aims to encourage youth to lead healthy, responsible and disciplined lives while contributing positively to society.
The DC SP Cup Inter-Village Volleyball Championship 2026 will continue across various venues in South Andaman, bringing together teams from different Gram Panchayats and promoting the spirit of unity, healthy competition and collective responsibility for building a cleaner, healthier and drug-free society.
