New Momentum to Energy Security in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 11: Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma today inaugurated Indian Oil’s new barge, MT IRIS, at Sri Vijaya Puram and flagged it off for operation.
With the deployment of this barge, petroleum products can now be transported in bulk instead of barrels, reducing manual handling and minimising the associated risks.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor stated that this initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring a safer and more reliable all-weather fuel supply to the remote islands. It will help maintain the smooth functioning of essential services and support the day-to-day lives of the islanders.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to Indian Oil Corporation Limited on this significant achievement and conveyed his best wishes to the entire crew of the barge for safe, successful and prosperous voyages.
