
Car Nicobar, Oct. 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nicobar under ICAR–CIARI organized a three-day training programme on “Ensuring Organic Integrity: Training on Certification Procedures” from 8th to 10th October 2025 at the Community Hall, Kimois Village, Car Nicobar. The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about the importance of maintaining organic integrity and to educate them on the procedures involved in obtaining organic certification for their produce.
The event was graced by Shri Canaan, 4th Captain of Kimois Village, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, he appreciated the efforts of KVK Nicobar in promoting organic farming practices and encouraged farmers to adopt sustainable methods to preserve soil fertility and environmental health.
Dr. Santosh Kumar, Head, KVK Nicobar, inaugurated the programme and provided valuable insights on organic agriculture, emphasizing its role in ensuring sustainability, food safety, and livelihood improvement. He also highlighted KVK’s initiatives in promoting organic practices across the Nicobar district.
Technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Sanketh G.D. (SMS–Agronomy), Dr. Ajmal (SMS–Economics), Dr. Akshay (SMS–Horticulture), and Mr. Deepoo Meena (SMS–ASE). The experts delivered detailed presentations on organic farming principles, certification standards, documentation and inspection procedures, of NPOP and Participatory Guarantee System (PGS). They also discussed practical aspects of organic input preparation, pest and disease management, and record-keeping for certification compliance.
A total of 30 farmers from Kimois village actively participated in the training. The participants showed great enthusiasm and interest in adopting organic practices and appreciated the interactive sessions conducted by the KVK team. The training was organized under the guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR–CIARI, Port Blair, whose leadership and vision ensured the success of the initiative.
