Campbell Bay, Nov. 3: The Department of AH&VS conducted awareness programs on Artificial Insemination (AI) in cattle at Joginder Nagar Community Hall under Laxmi Nagar Panchayat and at Veterinary Hospital, Campbell Bay for Govind Nagar and Campbell Bay Gram Panchayats recently. The initiatives aimed to educate dairy farmers and PRI members on advanced breeding techniques to enhance milk production and livestock quality.
The meetings were attended by Pramukh, Campbell Bay, Shri E.S. Rajesh; Up-Pradhan, Campbell Bay, Shri Sanjay Ekka; Pradhan, GP Laxmi Nagar, Shri Prahlad Singh; Pradhan, GP Govind Nagar, Shri Venkat; Up-Pradhan, GP Campbell Bay, Shri Emanual; Ward members from all three Panchayats; and dairy farmers from the respective areas.
Experts emphasized the benefits of AI in increasing milk yield, the use of sex-sorted semen for female calf production, and the importance of castrating scrub bulls to promote AI adoption. The programs also covered the value of cattle by-products, including cow dung-based biogas plants, cow urine utilization, and preparation of agarbatti (incense sticks) from cow dung, to encourage diversified income sources.
A key outcome was the unanimous recognition that scrub bulls contribute to low AI coverage in Great Nicobar. To address this, participants resolved to castrate all stray scrub bulls across the Gram Panchayats in coordination with the AH&VS Department. This collaborative decision marks a significant step toward systematic breeding improvement.
