First Phase of Census of India ‘Houselisting and Housing Census’ to Commence from April 2026

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 4: Census of India will be conducted in 2027. The first phase of census namely, Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) will start from 1st April, 2026.  The Census 2027 shall be first fully digital Census, where data collection, management and monitoring of census functionaries shall be through mobiles applications and census portal. For testing the efficacy of the ecosystem created for census 2027, the testing exercise shall be conducted.  The testing shall be done at selected villages of Diglipur Tehsil of North and Middle Andaman, Nancowry Tehsil of Nicobar and in one ward of SVPMC. 

During the exercise, the mobile applications for mapping, houselisting data collection, portal for monitoring the census activities, self-enumeration portal and other activities of census would be put to test. Before assigning field work, the appointed enumerators and Supervisors shall be imparted 3 days training by the officers from Directorate of Census Operations, A&N Islands between 1-6 November, 2025. The training started in Nancowry on 1st November, 2025 under the supervision of Shri Santosh Prakash, Assistant Commissioner and Shri Mohammed Yunus M., Block Development Officer. It was inaugurated in Diglipur and SVPMC on 3rd November, 2025. Shri Abhishek Gulia, Assistant Commissioner, and Shri Biswanath Sen, Deputy Tehsildar, Diglipur are monitoring the training in Diglipur. 

Ms Purva Garg, IAS, Director of Census Operations, A&N Islands visited the training facility at Sri Vijaya Puram and laid emphasis on hands-on training for the participants. Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, Secretary (PBMC) also graced the occasion at Sri Vijaya Puram in the capacity of Town Census Officer.
