Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 5: The Annual General Body Meeting of the Andaman Sarvajanik Nirman Vibhag Mazdoor Sangh (ASNVMS), affiliated to CITU, was held today (5.11.2025) at Port Blair.

About two hundred Members of the Union from different Divisions of APWD at Port Blair and rural South Andaman attended the General Body Meeting.  In his presidential address, B. Chandrachoodan, President of the Union elaborately explained the relentless struggles conducted by the ASNVMS and CITU on various demands of APWD workers during the last 10 – 15 years.  He said that it was due to the protracted agitation by the APWD workers that the Administration was compelled to bring a separate scheme to extend the 1/30th of pay plus DA benefits to the daily rated workers working in all the departments under the Administration.

Addressing the meeting, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee briefly explained the various anti-working-class measures being pursued by the Modi government at the centre during the last 11 years.  He called upon the workers to remain under the banner of ASNVMS and strengthen the CITU so that more struggles in a massive way can be conducted to achieve their demands like regularization of services, etc.

SP Kalairajan, General Secretary presented the working report of the Union while Anand Rajan, Treasurer presented the Audited Accounts.  At the outset of the meeting, a condolence resolution was moved by the General Secretary to pay homage to the leaders and members who passed away since last General Body meeting and the gathering observed one-minute’s silence.

A new Committee with B. Chandrachoodan, SP Kalairajan and Sharfudeen as President, General Secretary and Treasurer was elected in the General Body meeting. The General Body meeting also elected the Delegates for the CITU State Conference scheduled to be held on 20 – 21 December 2025 at Port Blair.
