
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 16: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, A&N Islands, Brookshabad, in collaboration with the Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration, has launched a 15-day vocational training programme on handicrafts made from coconut shells and bamboo for Divyangjan trainees under Skill training Programme.
A total of 26 Divyangjan trainees with mixed disabilities from the Vocational Training Section of CRC A&N Islands are undergoing this specialized training. The programme was formally inaugurated by Shri Ratinder Nath, Assistant Director, Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration along with Shri Liyakath Ali, Superintendent-cum-Foreman, in the presence of Smti. Sumithamol, Director, CRC A&N Islands.
This initiative aims to empower Divyangjan by providing practical, hands-on skill development that enhances creativity, fine motor skills, and self-confidence. The long-term vision of this programme is to promote employability, support self-employment opportunities, and encourage trainees to create marketable handicraft products from locally available resources. These skills are expected to contribute toward sustainable livelihood options and economic independence for Persons with Disabilities in the A&N Islands.
