Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day) Celebrated with Great Fervour in Car Nicobar

Car Nicobar, Nov. 16: Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day) was celebrated with great fervour at Edward Kutchat Park, Car Nicobar yesterday in a vibrant tribute to the island’s rich tribal heritage. The event, which began with blended cultural brilliance and impactful community welfare initiatives.

The celebration commenced with a solemn tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary at Edward Kutchat Park, Car Nicobar. The ceremony, featuring the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a floral tribute led by chief guest, Shri Rahul L. Nair, IPS, Superintendent of Police, and guest of honour, Shri Lionald Nicomed, CTC Car Nicobar, set a respectful tone for the day’s events. The programme was held under the supervision of Dr. Naveen Kumar, AC (HQ), Car Nicobar, with all Heads of Department in Car Nicobar in attendance to pay their respects.

The Education Department, Car Nicobar, presented an impressive showcase of traditional folk songs and vibrant tribal dances. The chief guest praised the Department for the outstanding quality of the performances, which highlighted the community’s cultural richness.

As part of key welfare efforts, the Agriculture Department distributed vegetable seed kits to local farmers, facilitated by chief guest. To promote sustainable livelihoods, the Veterinary Department also distributed duck chicks to farmers, led by guest of honour. The Health Department organized a wide-ranging medical camp offering essential services such as vision and dental check-ups, ABHA ID creation, nutrition awareness sessions, and screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Public grievance redressal under “Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore” commenced for three days from Nov. 15 to 17. The Electricity Department conducted a special camp promoting the RESCO model Surya Ghar scheme. Attendees received detailed information and were able to complete on-the-spot registrations. The scheme is offered free of cost to AAY and BPL families, enhancing access to clean and reliable energy.

CIARI, Car Nicobar, set up a stall to host a Tribal Farmer Market, offering fresh vegetables and promoting local agricultural produce. The Fisheries Department displayed traditional fishing tools and conducted awareness activities for the community.

The CDPO organized an awareness programme on Anganwadi nutrition meals, showcasing both raw materials and cooked food items used for child nutrition. Awareness was also created on various social welfare schemes, including Old Age Pension, Disability Pension, and Widow Pension.

Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025 proved to be a meaningful and multifaceted celebration, honouring tribal culture, paying homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s 150th anniversary, and advancing community development through significant initiatives in health, energy, agriculture, and sustainable livelihoods.
